Felix Hernandez pitched an absolute gem for the Seattle Mariners on Thursday (April 19), but still failed to pick up a win. Hernandez went 8 innings, striking out 12 Cleveland Indians without giving up a run. He allowed only six base runners on the night, and gave the Mariners a great chance to win the game.

Philadelphia Phillies lefty starter Cliff Lee threw up a ridiculous stat line against the San Francisco Giants Wednesday, going ten innings without allowing a run. Matt Cain just happened to go nine with the same result. It was the stuff of Carlton vs. Seaver, Clemens vs. Maddux or Ryan vs. Carlton. The game was in the ninth inning only an hour and 37 minutes from its first pinpointed pitch. I’ve seen horrible romantic comedies that lasted longer than that.
