Now that Shin-Soo Choo seems unlikely to be donning military fatigues, the Cleveland Indians would like the outfielder to wear their uniform for as long as possible. South Korean baseball players throw their team manager Cho Bum Hyun into the air after they won their gold medal match against Taiwan at the 16th Asian Games in Guangzhou, China, Friday, Nov. 19, 2010.

South Korea's gold medal in baseball at the Asia Games held a special bonus for Cleveland Indians' slugger Choo Shin-soo — a special exemption from serving in the military that could be worth millions of dollars to him. The 2010 New York Mets broke me in a way like never before. It took me no greater than two weeks to realize that particular group of players and coaches had zero chance of finishing over .500. South Korean baseball player Choo Shin-soo talks to the media following a practice session for the Asian Games in Guangzhou, China, Wednesday, Nov. 17, 2010. The Cleveland Indians outfielder Choo Shin-soo says he's here to help his South Korean team win an Asian Games gold, but getting an exemption from mandatory military service would be a "bonus."

Cleveland Indians outfielder Choo Shin-soo is keen to shoot down one theory about why he's traveled all this way to lead South Korea's bid to regain the Asian Games gold medal. Some say he's doing it primarily to get a waiver from military service, which is mandatory for able-bodied South Korean men for two years sometime between the ages of 20 and 30.

The Cleveland Indians have re-signed free agent pitcher Anthony Reyes to a minor league contract.
